Foundation, Vision & Historic Milestones
Before 2002, higher education in Siem Reap was scarce. Driven by the national vision of "One Province, One University", Angkor University was founded to provide world-class education in the heart of Cambodia.
The visionary initiative for establishing Angkor University is attributed to H.E. Neak Oknha Dr. Seang Nam and Dr. Sok Tonh, supported by strong partnership ties with Japanese academic institutions. Angkor University was officially established and authorized under Royal Government Sub-Decree No. 28 ANKr.BK, dated 23 July 2004, beginning its mission with five foundational faculties: Business Administration & Tourism, Science & Technology, Humanities & Foreign Languages, Sociology & Law, and Agriculture.
Today, Angkor University has grown into 7 comprehensive faculties and 3 specialized centers, operating under both the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Health, consistently celebrated as the premier university in Siem Reap province.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced the national initiative, inspiring local visionaries to plan the first modern university for Siem Reap province.
